Eternally Yours (Arabesque)

Author: Brenda Jackson
Average review score:

The Love Bug Bites Twice As Hard
Three cheers for Ms. Jackson. "Eternally Yours" is another Madaris hit! This time, bachelor Clayton Madaris gets stung by the love bug in the form of Syneda Tremain Walters. However, the bite is contagious because not only does Clayton have the love fever, but so does Syneda!

In the previous books, "Tonight and Forever" and "Whispered Promises", Clayton and Syneda, both attorneys, can never agree on anything. That changes drastically when Clayton realizes how attractive Syneda is and his feelings blossoms. Syneda, hurt in the past by what she thinks is desertion by her father when her mother dies, has decided she does not need a man in her life. She and Clayton are friends and adversaries when it comes to work. They can never agree on anything. That is until love comes along and both are smitten with one another. They make commitments to each other. Each vows to the other to be "Eternally Yours" forever.

Through misunderstanding and heartache, they have to deal with what love has to offer and how love affects life. Syneda and Clyaton have unexpected surprises in store for them. Clayton - because he never expected to fall "head over heels" in love and give up bachelorhood. Syneda has two surprises: (1) she never expected to need a man in her life until Clayton disrupts her planned out life, and (2) the appearance of someone in her life she never expected to materialize.

"Eternally Yours" is a heartwarming, touching, and funny story of two people who deserve and find true love together. Another winner!!

The continuing saga of the Madaris brothers
Brenda Jackson has written the latest in the stories of the Madaris brothers of Texas. "Tonight and Forever" covered the life and love of the oldest brother, Justin. "Whispered Promises" was about Dexter Madaris. "Eternally Yours" is the story of attorney Clayton Madaris, the youngest son and a womanizer of epic proportions ,who keeps a case of condoms in his closet. Clayton believes "the only men who aren't fools are bachelors." He's seen the challenges that love has brought to his older brothers and he doesn't want to go there. Syneda Walters is also a successful attorney. She and Clayton have disagreed through two novels so you know they've got to get together eventually. While you know what the outcome is, Brenda Jackson has crafted her book to include enough plot twists to keep readers interested. There is something for everyone in this book. For those who have read Ms. Jackson's earlier books and her novella, "Cupid's Bow," it's fun to see what some of your favorite characters are up to now. For those who have NOT read Ms. Jackson before, the book is a strong stand-alone that doesn't require reading the first two books to understand what's going on. However, it will intrigue some readers enough to want to buy the other books. Ms. Jackson also includes enough spin-off characters for readers to anticipate whose story will be written next. "Eternally Yours" was well worth the wait.

Definitely a keeper!
This is my second time reading this book and it was just as good the second time around. The characters were loveable. I laughed with them and cried with them. I especially like the way Brenda Jackson links her books so that you can keep up with other characters she has written about. Most of the time you read a story and you assume "they live happily ever after". This way you know for sure.

JimmyDOTcom : The Evolution of a Phan
Published in Paperback by St. Somewhere Press (01 November, 2000)
Author: Jackson Quigley

Mr. Quigley is a "Parrothead"head
Simply put, this book is the quintessential document of Jimmy Buffett's fans. Don't buy this book looking for Jimmy's biography, and don't even think about finding the lyrics to "Margaritaville" (although there are some hysterical alternate lyrics to a few songs within). No, this book is about the "phans" that "phlock" to the parking lots hours before Jimmy and the Coral Reefer band takes the stage, and it is VERY thorough. Chances are, if you came to see Jimmy on his "Beach House On The Moon" tour, your picture is in this book! Every detail about Parrotheadism is there, along with some of the craziest photos you've ever seen. Trust me, you may have thought your Jimmy Buffett concert experience was full, but it's not complete until you see how the rest of the country does it (and by the way, it's comforting to know that there's so many great minds thinking alike here).

A "preferred reading" for anyone who's ever been curious about life as a Parrothead, and a MUST HAVE for anyone who's ever worn a grass skirt or a coconut bra to a concert. Thanks Jackson!

These ARE the people your parents warned you about!
When I received my copy of JimmyDOTcom I had to prepare before I even opened it. I loaded my CD player with Buffett music (the good old stuff that I love so much) and opened a bottle of good red wine and filled my chalice. OK, now I was ready! I gotta tell ya, this book covers every aspect of the Parrothead lifestyle. Jackson tacks us through this sea of Parrothead craziness with true love and appreciation of everything he is taking in. What is great about this book is that it is obviously being told to us by a man who has been living amongst these colorful fun-loving characters for a long time and loving every minute of it! The book also shows the side of Parrotheads that most people are unaware existed. You'll see many community and environmentally conscious folks who give and give. If you are new to the Parrothead sub-culture, this book shows (through stories written by fans and many, many wonderful pictures) that YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I plan to take this book to work so my co-workers can see that there are a lot others out there like me! I've been a fan of Buffett since 1978 and seen the fans evolve. It's great to finally to see a book that is written by a TRUE FAN that is all about US. We, the fans, are the story! So, if you are a Jimmy Buffett fan of ANY degree, THIS IS YOUR BOOK! THIS IS YOUR LIFE!

JimmyDOTCom captures the true parrothead experience
When I first met Jackson Quigley during his Jimmy Buffett Beach House On The Moon concert marathon he was doing "research" for this book. Now I'm not sure how he got this job, but it's one I'd love to have. It is definitely a parrothead's dream job, and Jackson did it supremely well. I have about all the parrothead books that have been published, but this book does by far the best job of capturing the whole parrothead experience. I have always struggled to answer people when they ask me what a parrothead is and why the heck do I need to go to sooo many Jimmy Buffett concerts every year. I got to the point where I just shook my head and didn't even try to explain parrotheadism (if that's even a word). I'd just tell them to go to a concert or two and maybe they'd get it then. Well now I can just tell them to buy this book and I think they'll definitely get it. Kudos to Jackson Quigley for doing all that hard research in getting this book together. I was glad to finally pick up my copy at Meeting of the Minds 2000. This book is entertaining not only for parrotheads, but I think just about anyone would thoroughly enjoy having it on their coffee table.

Dancing the Dream: Poems and Reflections
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (July, 1992)
Author: Michael Jackson
Average review score:

A MUST-READ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
This is truly a wonderful book. For those of you who think Michael Jackson is crazy, or others who may think his only talents lie in singing and dancing, you gotta read this book! It's basically a collection of poems and stories written by Michael, and each one has a moral (No, it's not a kiddie book). I used to think he had no talent for writing before I read it, but after I read some of the reflections, I felt like I had experienced and learned more than I ever had from a single book. For those Christians, there's a good number of poems and reflections about God in there, too! My favorite poems in there are "So the Elephants March," "I You We," "Berlin 1989," and "But the Heart Said No."

Great Poems
The poems in this book are wonderful to read and the pictures in this book are great. I really like the poems a lot and I like to read them in my room. Michael Jackson did a great job with his poems in this book and I hope he continues to write poetry in the future.

In A Word: Breathtaking.
This is Michael Jackson at his prime. It is a living proof that the man is not only the greatest pop star that ever lived, he's the greatest artist that ever lived.

The book is printed 100% on glossy paper and has tons of pictures. It contains Jackson's observation on life, humanity, god, the world and children. It takes you places only Michael Jackson can.

So, in a word? Breathtaking. Get it right now!!!

Help! My Child Can't Read: A How-to Guide for Parents

HELP ! My Child Can't Read
The "no - nonsence" approach of Ms.Jackson's book HELP! My Child Can't Read is quite remarkable.

No big research, no impressive statistics; simply mother to mother kind of guidance should hold a torch for many distressed parents.

Help! My Child Can't Read: A How-to Guide for Parents
I was very impressed with the simplicity and ease of the content of the book. Her ability to take such a complex and serious issue and reduce the approach in a way that any parent, regardless of their own education level, can help their children with reading skills is phenomenal. It provides an excellent jump start for parents diligently working with their children at home before introducing them to a school environment. Ms. Jackson has done a remarkable job!

Try this book!
This is a very good book for parents to help their children to learn how to read. It's a very good book for teachers to read also. I reccomend that every parent and teacher read this book. The book teaches you some easy steps on how to teach your child to read , the steps are pretty basic so I think that any one could follow them.

Princess and the Goblin (Dove Kids)
Published in Audio Cassette by Dove Books Audio (February, 1993)
Authors: George MacDonald and Glenda Jackson
Average review score:

A timeless book
This book is not only beautifully written and perfect for all ages, "The Princess and the Goblin" is also morally strong and uplifting. Children of either sex will be interested in it, with a loving and beautiful grandmother, a strong and intelligent young girl, and a young boy who is intent on protecting his loved ones and uncovering the evil goblin plot. I have read this countless times, and each time I discover something new. The sequel, "The Princess and Curdie," is also worth reading. I love this book!

Love Narnia? You'll love this!
So you love C.S. Lewis' Narnia Chronicles? There people who don't are few and far between. One of the biggest influences on C.S. Lewis was this man, George MacDonald (1824-1905). It was MacDonald's talent for telling fairy stories that inspired Lewis in writing his own. Like Lewis, MacDonald has a remarkable ability to tell a delightful and enchanting story for children, layered with strong Christian themes and imagery by means of allegory and symbols. 'The Princess and the Goblin' is one of his most beloved works for children, and an excellent introduction to his style and success.

'The Princess and the Goblin' features a heroine ' a princess called Irene ' and a hero ' a simple miner's son called Curdie. While working overtime in the mines to earn money to buy his mother a red petty-coat, Curdie chances upon the goblins who live in the mountain, and discovers that they are hatching an evil plot against the king and his palace. Meanwhile the princess makes a discovery of her own ' high in the castle she finds a wonderful old lady who is her great-great-grandmother. The problem is, nobody else knows of her grandmother, and nobody believes her. But the princess does believe, and it is by her faith in her grandmother and the magic thread that she receives from her, that she is able to rescue Curdie. Together they rescue the entire palace from disaster at the hands of the goblins.

In telling the story, MacDonald has an enchanting conversational style, wonderfully suitable for reading aloud to enraptured children ' an ability perfecting in telling stories to his own eleven children. But 'The Princess and the Goblin' is more than just a story. Before pursuing a literary career, MacDonald was a Congregationalist minister, and so integrates important underlying Christian themes. Believing in the great-great-grandmother despite the fact that many cannot see her, is a symbol of believing in God. MacDonald uses this to show how the Christian faith involves believing without seeing, and that not everyone has to 'see' something for it to be true. The grandmother's lamp and magic thread are the guides on which the princess must depend, much like the Word which is a lamp on our path. It may sound tacky, but it works.

Children are not likely to grasp the deeper underlying themes that MacDonald is working with. Nonetheless the story has a clear message for children. The clear conflict between the royal powers of light against the goblin powers of darkness is unmistakable. Moreover, the princess is presented as a model of virtue, and MacDonald frequently asserts the importance of moral virtues such as always telling the truth, keeping your word, and admitting your faults ' moral virtues that are equally important for princes and princesses of God's kingdom. Courage, honesty, grace, dignity and beauty are timeless ideals for children of all times to strive for. If you love Narnia, you're sure to like this one, and you'll find yourself quickly grabbing the sequel, 'The Princess and Curdie.' 'The Princess and the Goblin' was one of J.R.R. Tolkien's childhood favorites, highly regarded by C.S. Lewis, described by W.H. Auden as 'the only English children's book in the same class as the Alice books', and generally considered as a classic example of nineteenth century children's literary fairy tales. So if you haven't yet read this book, it's about time you did. With admirers such as Tolkien, Lewis and Auden, if you become a MacDonald's admirer you'll find yourself in good company!

A Classic
I cant believe I haven't read this untill now, its such a great book! A princess lives in a castle all her life, never knowing of the great dangers that go on in the mountain. One day(being about 7 years old) she finds a stairway in her house that she has never seen and it leads her to her great, great grandmother. After she meets her grandmother she is shown the dangers of the goblins and meets a boy named Curdie who mines in the mountain with his father. Throughout the book Curdie and the princess have many encounters with the goblins. This is a great book I highly recommend it for readers of all ages.

Ties That Bind: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Griffin Trade Paperback (01 November, 2002)
Author: Brenda Jackson
Average review score:

Bound Together By Love
The Vietnam War, the Black Panther movement and the marches for Civil Rights were causes for turbulent times in the 1960's. These events provide the setting for the novel Ties That Bind by Brenda Jackson. The story begins on the campus of Howard University in the mid-1960's. Two young people meet and fall deeply in love. Randolph Fuller came from a family of prominent lawyers on the paternal side and from the Gullah people on the maternal side. Jenna Haywood is too dark and did not have any prestige behind her name. These differences between the two did not matter , although to Julia Fuller, Randolph's grandmother, it was a disgrace. Jenna and Randolph were in love and planned to be together for the rest of their lives. However, an obsessed Angela, who was actually the grandmother's handpicked bride for Randolph.s brother, had other plans, which included making Randolph her man. In a mixture of lies and deceit, she got her man, but paid a heavy price.

Fast forward twelve years, Angela still is obsessively in love with Randolph, but their ten year marriage has ended. Randolph found out that Jenna, whom he never stopped loving was also free. When Jenna seeks Randolph's assistance to help free an imprisoned friend, it gives them the opportunity to rekindle their romance. However, Angela will not easily give up her role as Randolph's wife. In her vengeful state, she uses Randolph's son, Trey, as a pawn and with more lies and deceit, she turns him against his father.

Advance twenty years later, all the carefully constructed lies and deception start to crumble. Every deceptive thing Angela has done comes to light. Randolph and Jenna are still married, and the estranged relationship they had with Trey is getting better. A new generation of Fullers and their friends are now finding true love like their parents.

Ms Jackson again has given her readers a passionate and romantic novel filled with sensuous lovemaking and family love that transcends beyond the main couple, and reaches into the families and friends. The legacy of the Fuller family will bring readers joy for many more anticipated sequels.

The Book of the Year
What more can I say about Brenda Jackson. She is truly my favorite author and her latest book proves that she will be here for a long time.

"Ties that Bind" takes us back in history when Martin Luther King, the Black Panthers and the Vietnam war were just getting started. We are introduced to Jenna Haywood and Randolph Fuller on the campus of Howard University. The trials that they had to overcome to just be together. I love the way the author allowed us to see the background of the characters and watch their relationship bloom into full blown LOVE.

All the secondary characters help this book become a quick and easy read. You will not want to put this book down until you are finish and then get mad because it is over. I would love to see a follow-up book to see how all the couples are doing and to see if another relationship is in the works.

A delightful read
Ties that bind was the first novel that I read by Brenda Jackson. I was not disappointed.

This book was good from beginning to end.

The book starts off with Jenna Haywood a student at Howard University. Jenna wanted to finish school and help her parents put her brothers through school. Along comes Randolph Fuller who falls in love with Jenna the first time that he meets her.

Randolph comes from a wealthy family while Jenna family is very poor. Randolph's grandmother is not happy with his relationship with Jenna and will do any and everything to destroy it.

This is a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone.

The Day We Bombed Switzerland: Flying With the Us Eighth Army Air Force in World War II
Published in Hardcover by Airlife Pub Ltd (15 May, 2000)
Author: Jackson Granholm
Average review score:

Please change the tiltle!
...It is fair to say that the author has a good story to tell and gives a good description of USAF bomber crews during WWII. However he never saw a Lufwaffe fighter during all his raids and fails to give any credible explanation for this. Also there is not one thought for all the civilians that were killed during Allied bombings. Jackson's first missions were over France and although he does mention USAF bombing US army positions, there is nothing for instance on the bombing of Caen where 5000 French civilians were killed. Later during the bombings over Germany there is no mention on the death of hundreds of thousands of German civilians. ...

World War II Air War Book Hits the Target
Jackson Granholm's new book, "The Day We Bombed Switzerland", is a riveting, revealing and often hilarious account of a never before revealed part of World War II history. Granholm, a Navigator in the 458th bomb group stationed in England around the time of D-Day, paints a realisitic and often horrifying picture of the adventures of men who flew the B-24 Liberator bombers, the bulky, ugly cousin of the famed B-17 Flying Fortress. The reader is taken through Granholm's misadventures during training in the American desert, through intense bombing raids in unthinkable weather through enemy "flak" fire over Germany, and concludes with the agonizing court martial trial of two servicemen who's plane became lost in bad weather and accidentally dropped bombs on Zurich. The descriptions of bombing runs and the difficulties faced by crews attempting to hit established targets are so realistic the reader can hear the German flak bullets rattling and ricocheting through the B-24's interior. Over 6000 men from the 2nd Air Division (of which Granholm was a member) died during the war. The haunting description of one of the gigantic B-24's, broken in two and falling to earth, as seen from Granholm's bomber, gives an incredibly vivid account of the horror the 'fly-boys" went through, though far removed from the front-line ground fighting. The reader is introduced to some fascinating characters in "The Day We Bombed Switzerland". Center Stage is Max Sokarl, the brilliant lawyer turned aviator, who's quit wit and impressive tongue, piloted my an incessant desire to cause trouble, create a number of crazy and unpredicatable adventures, such as the stealing of a civilian bus for several days, and the resulting amazingly funny cover-up in which Sokarl redefines the meaning of "red tape"! Sokarl's stories appear throughout the book, and add great comic releif to the intensity of the battle descrtiptions. One can't help get the feeling that Max Sokarl was a real life Hawkeye Pierce. Granholm does a fantastic job of pulling the reader into the daily life at the 458th: The airman in the infirmary who is convinced he will die in battle, the one who shoots petals off of daisy's, the one who steps on a hidden German land mine, the one who accidently blows up his own bomber as it sits on the runway. Softer touches are added as Granholm describes his tour of a town his bomb group has just bombed, as he talks with a German child there, and his visit to the the English Vaudeville to watch the entertainment. Throughout, the author interfuses amazing references to the history of the region, such as the impressive local cathedrals and the remnants of the occupation of the British Isles by the Danes. The trial of the servicemen breaks new literary ground. Granholm's research is thorough and memory sharp--(he served as defense council to the airmen accused in the court-martial proceedings). This little-known part of American history is revealed in depth for the first time, and the author's recount is detailed and interesting. The reader gets a close glimpse of the trial proceedings, of which the now-famous Max Sokarl plays center stage, the agonizing of the two accused airmen, and the calmness and kindness brought to the forefront by none other than Jimmy Stewart---yes THAT Jimmy Stewart. It was a joy to read "The Day We Bombed Switzerland". Wether you fought in World War II, have a relative who did, have in interest in airplanes, or just want to read a great book, The Day We Bombed Switzerland is ideal for you!

Exception!
The reviewer of Jackson Granholm's book, "The Day We Bombed Switzerland," intimated that the author and the crews of the 458th Bomb Group were a bunch of "idiots."
I take issue with that!
Crews of the 458th BG and all other Bomb Groups, including those of the RAF, were brave men who, at that time, were flying the most complicated and largest planes in existence. Most of the crews had less than 300 hours of flying time yet routinely flew overloaded planes in tight formations, often in unbelievable weather and almost always arriving at turning points and the target at "briefed times."
And what goes through a combat crew's mind before takeoff on a combat mission? "I wonder where I shall be sleeping tonight?"
Flying into a target heavily defended by flak and fighters, crews all knew that "There are no atheists in foxholes (or cockpits)."
"Bombs away;" "Lincoln Red-left turn;" "Any wounded?;" "How much battle damage?;" "Wonder what the weather is like at home base?;" "In case we're diverted, will we have enough fuel to go to a, hopefully, open base somewhere in England or Scotland?"
After sitting in one spot at high altitude for 8 hours (plus or minus), wearing an oxygen mask with a glob of ice dangling beneath, a (hopefully) operating electrically heated flight suit, a back-pack parachute, "Mae West," flak vest, throat mike, head set, and possibly your other clothing soiled by bodily wastes--"idiots?"
Yes they were "idiots"--brave, loyal, patriotic, dedicated "idiots--Thank God.
Remember: The real "heroes" were "KIA" (Killed In Action).
Peace,
Col. Charles H. Booth, Jr., U.S.A.F. Ret.

True Love (Arabesque)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by B E T Books (September, 2000)
Author: Brenda Jackson
Average review score:

Brenda!! You've Done It Again Girl!!!!
Shayla was determined to get revenge for the hurt her mother suffered. She was a very educated and well rounded young woman. She knew she had what it takes to destroy Chenault Electronics and TJ Electronics. What she didn't count on was falling in love with Chenault's CEO Nicholas Chenault.

Nicholas was tired of the same ol' same ol'. He had not been involved with a woman for about a year. Nick always loved his own space. At least that was before he met and embraced Shayla. Shayla did things to this man that no woman has ever done.

This story has so much drama in it, if I continue, I might give away the real good parts. I will say that Nicholas and Shayla went through alot to be together. There was 2 other romances in this book that were just as enjoyable and their romances didn't detour you from the plot of this story. You discover a family secret that should have been buried with Shayla's mother, and a few other things that will not only shock you, but shocked Shayla as well.

If you have ever read any of Brenda Jackson's books, you know the book is the BOMB! Get it, read it, you won't regret it.

HOT HOT HOT!!!!
Oh well what can I say but Brenda Jackson did it again. I have read all your romance stories and this one just hit my top ten list along with all the others. I love the way the characters from one story to next relate and inter-twine toether. Shayla and Nicholas really were a match made in heaven, however I must say I never say the plot unfolding as it did. Never never never did I even think there would be drama whit the plot about her parents. Excellent job and now I will patiently wait for the continuing story about Trent and Brenna.

Brenda Jackson has done it again!!
I have been truly anticipating the release of this novel and I must say that it was worth the wait. We were first introduced to Nicholas in the novel "One Special Moment." Nich ia the half brother of Sterling Hamilton.

When Nick sets out to interview Shayla Kirkland he was not expecting to fall in love at first sight.

Shayla has a drawn out plan to destroy Nick's company for what they did to her mother 27 years ago. But when she gets to really know Nick she begins to have doubts that she can go through with it.

I love the way that Brenda tells this story. You are hook from the very beginning and can not put it down until it is finished. You also get a bonus story with Brenna and Trent.

If you have not read any of Brenda Jackson's books you are missing something exciting. She is my all time favorite. I can't wait for Ashton's story next year.
